Is it normal to have sensitivity after dental treatment?

Tooth sensitivity is a common occurrence after certain dental treatments, and although it may be unpleasant for a short period of time, it’s often part of the healing process. At Total Wellness Dental, we’ll do everything we can to minimize your discomfort and give you helpful aftercare tips for when you get home.

What Can Cause Sensitivity After Dental Treatment?

Temporary inflammation is the most common cause of post-visit sensitivity. Dental treatment can irritate your tooth and gums, but rest assured that this sensitivity is temporary and varies from person to person.

It’s usually the worst for the first day or two, and taking over-the-counter pain relievers is often sufficient to manage any discomfort.

Before you leave our office, we’ll provide the best aftercare tips and answer all your questions. But if you experience severe pain, a fever, or unusual swelling, it’s best to contact our office right away so we can schedule an appointment.
