Sleep Apnea/Snoring Treatment in West Houston

There’s nothing like waking up in the morning feeling rested and refreshed. You have a clear head, and you’re ready to take on your busy day. But if you snore or suffer from untreated sleep apnea, this may sound like a dream that never comes true.

Snoring and sleep apnea can make it extremely difficult to achieve quality, restful sleep, so exploring your treatment options is essential to improving your mood and overall health.

What Causes Sleep Disorders?

Both snoring and sleep apnea occur when your airway gets partially or completely blocked while you’re asleep. Loud snoring is often a symptom of sleep apnea, but not everyone who snores has sleep apnea.

Snoring happens when the soft tissues relax while sleeping; this narrows your airway and causes a vibrating sound.

Sleep apnea is more serious because your airway collapses fully and causes you to stop breathing. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) can lead to serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and cognitive issues.

If you have sleep apnea, you could stop breathing hundreds of times each night, and each episode could last for a few seconds or more than a minute. If we suspect you have OSA, we’ll work with your doctor to arrange a sleep study. The data from this study helps us determine your best treatment option.

The Benefits of Quality Sleep

When your airway is open, and you’re once again able to get the quality sleep your body needs, you’ll reap the following benefits:

Improved Focus and Memory
Getting a good night’s sleep helps your brain function better, making it possible to focus and remember things.
Better Mood and Less Stress
You could have a lower risk of depression when you sleep well, and you’ll be in a better mood throughout the day.
Stronger Immune System
Restful sleep could keep you from getting sick as much; sleeping can build the antibodies that fight viruses.
Enhanced Daily Function
When you sleep at night, you’ll likely be more alert during the day, and you won’t find your thoughts drifting.

Treating Snoring and Sleep Apnea: What We Offer

Dr. Do is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. As such, she is highly qualified to treat sleep issues.

Our Houston dental office offers two different treatment options for snoring and sleep apnea:

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) — You’ll wear a custom, two-piece mouthguard while you sleep. It fits snugly over your upper and lower teeth, moving your lower jaw forward. This serves to keep your airway open.

NightLase® Snoring and Sleep Apnea Treatment — This patented treatment can decrease snoring and lessen the effects of sleep apnea without anesthesia. You’ll visit us for three treatment sessions in six weeks, and your results could last up to a year.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Preconditioning — Using our gentle Er: YAG laser, we’ll gently preheat the tissues in the back of your throat.
  2. Tissue strengthening — The laser light strengthens and shrinks your soft tissues, opening your airway and making it easier to breathe.

Ready to Sleep Better?

If you live in Houston, Pine Forest Village, Clay Meadows, Memorial, or one of the other surrounding communities, our dental team is ready to take your call! We’ll guide you through the sleep study process and customize a treatment plan to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Dr. Do is very passionate about sleep apnea treatment and works with patients to determine the best approach. Oral appliances provide a non-invasive alternative to CPAP machines and are designed to keep your airway open during sleep.

Combined with NightLase® snoring and apnea treatment, these therapies can improve sleep quality, reduce snoring, and support overall health.

How Oral Appliances and NightLase Work

Patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea may experience improved sleep and daytime energy without the discomfort of traditional CPAP devices.

We offer personalized, comfortable treatment options designed to fit your lifestyle, making them a practical choice for many of our patients.

  • Oral appliance therapy involves a custom-fitted device that repositions your jaw and tongue to prevent airway obstruction while you sleep.
  • NightLase uses gentle laser technology to tighten and tone the soft tissues in your airway, which can reduce snoring and improve breathing patterns.

Take the first step toward better sleep and improved health today!

Yes! Dr. Do has helped hundreds of patients reclaim their rest with custom oral appliances for sleep apnea, and she can help you, too. Here's how an oral appliance works.

Understanding Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type, and it occurs when your airway becomes blocked while you sleep, which signals your brain to wake you. This can happen multiple times throughout the night without you realizing it, and even hundreds of times in severe cases.

When you're constantly waking throughout the night, you're unable to get the rejuvenating rest that you need, which causes a host of issues, such as:

  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Difficulties focusing or concentrating
  • Mood swings or irritability
  • Depression

You Deserve a Good Night's Rest

Continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) therapy is the standard of care for patients diagnosed with sleep apnea. However, many patients find the treatment uncomfortable because they have to wear a mask while they sleep.

Dr. Do designs custom oral appliances that shift the jaw slightly to open the airway and support clear breathing throughout the night. This can replace CPAP for patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea.

Contact your Houston sleep apnea dentist at (281) 463-7258 for more information on how we can help with sleep apnea.

At Total Wellness Dental, we offer solutions for patients who can't tolerate their CPAP treatment with a custom oral appliance. Many patients find relief from their sleep apnea and CPAP concerns with an oral appliance. Dr. Do can even partner with your physician to ensure that you're getting the good night's rest and results you need from the appliance.

The custom appliance fits over your teeth and gently repositions your jaw during sleep, opening your airway for clear and unobstructed breathing. It can be a helpful solution for patients with mild or moderate sleep apnea.

Dr. Do also offers laser treatment for sleep apnea with the NightLase® dental laser. The laser tightens and strengthens the soft tissues that may be blocking your airway during sleep, thereby minimizing snoring and often helping with sleep apnea.
